RLB-H Fender Cover (44" x 16"): Advantages & Features

This product has been designed to have the following features:

1) - To NOT fall off ever

2) - To prevent even microscratches (the velcro-on backer is removeable, launderable and is very soft and acts like a buffing cloth.

3) - Has 3 hooks at the top edge (rebendable stainless steel inserts in a sheath) which allow for anchoring over any lip or edge on non metallic fenders

4) - Has magnets in a sheath which does NOT contact the paint on the fender's normally exposed surface (attaches to any metallic vertical lip inside the engine bay). NB. Magnets, even when covered, attract and hold sharp metal bits that scratch when moved over the fender surface. Magnets that hold ON the normally exposed fender surface are always a bad idea despite what the competition will tell you. They cause scratches guaranteed. It is just a matter of time.

5) - A Velcro-in backer adds padding (double layer over the fender crown) to absorb shocks from dropped tools or heavy objects brested on the fender.

6) - A double pad over the fender crown cushions the technicians rib cage when laying over the fender for extended periods. Also used on Daily Drivers for this reason.

7) - Clothing slides over the top side OVERGLIDE® coating;

8) - Velcro-in backer is "at home" launderable or commercially launderable (low heat) & is treated to minimize shrinkage.

9) - To fold up with the backer folded inside for storage.

Multiple, position adjustible, high strength, high holding power, special uni-directional magnets are distributed along the hanger lip to provide one-way gripping strength. The magnets can be moved inside their respective enclosures to customize the gripping positions. Note: It is recommended that the magnets grip on the inside vertical fender lip (LipGrip®) not on the fender itself. This prevents any potential scratching of clearcoats where magnets would contact the paint on the fender. Special 1 way magnets (Safe-T-Mag®) ensure that flux does not radiate into the engine compartment and effect computerized equipment (the magnets are specified to lose less than 1/2 of 1% of their strength per century.) Top side OVERGLIDE® technology ensures that mechanics clothing glides over the upper cover surface easing entry and exit into the engine compartment while reducing  "dislodgement " forces.

SHOCK ABSORBING: A "high pile" woven fabric acts to cushion forces from dropped tools or objects. A second layer of fabric added along the top edge of the cover doubles the protection along the vulnerable upper fender crown.

MICRO SCRATCH PREVENTION: The high pile fabric of the removeable backer is very soft and flexes along a line perpendicular to its back and front surfaces. This allows for the upper surface of the cover to shift relative to the fender without pulling dirt and dust particles across and along the fender in the direction of the shifting. This acts to prevent microscratches that result from particles being dragged across the paint on the fender surface.

CLEANLINESS: TOP LAYER: Both sides can be wiped clean (Simple Green is a recommended cleaner). Oil grease or spills cannot soak through to contact the paint. Both sides are non marking. Laundering is not required. BOTTOM LAYER: (removeable padded backer with bumper pad):"At Home Launderable" - warm water machine wash / drip dry. Use of a heavy duty detergent such as "X-400" from Acklands-Grainger is recommended to cut and hold grease and oil in suspension so an oil film is not left on the washer barrel.

LONG SERVICE LIFE: TOP LAYER: This unit is constructed from a material that has a inner polyester cloth core and a P.V.C. coating on both sides. (The top side is OVERGLIDE® treated to reduce friction against clothing). CSB 69 industrial nylon thread is used for strength and resistance to wear and tear. The polyurethane coated nylon edge binding can be wiped clean, is strong and won't easily tear. These units are extremely tough, resist wearing and tearing, chemicals (tested for brake clean, carb clean, varsol, battery acid, solvents), rotting, mildew. BOTTOM LAYER: (removeable padded backer with bumper pad)

RLB-D Fender Cover: Advantages & Features

1) The RLB-D is the same as the RLB-H model above except that it is 10 inches deeper to cover wider fender crowns. NB. Some of the wheel well is covered on a narrow fender. If frequent access is required to the wheel well area on a narrow fender, use the RLB-H model.

2) The design allows for one to insert a stiffener between the two layers of the fender cover's backer in the fender crown area in order to prevent fender crown dents in thinner wider aluminum fenders. Even elbows can cause dents in some fenders. **Use two layers of stiffeners (corrugated plastic sign material is light, easy to cut to shape, available locally and inexpensive) when resting the compressor on the Porsche 911 fender. Additional padding could also be inserted in between the layers of the backer.

3) Actual Fender surface coverage is 44 inches wide x 26 inches deep

4) Attachment is via magnets on the engine bay lip, hooks over the inside fender edge or ties in the loops at each end of the magnet sheath.

RLB-DDW Fender Cover: Advantages & Features

1) The RLB-DDW is the same as the RLB-D model above with the same three attachment mechanisms but it is 10 inches wider and 10 inches deeper to also cover across the front where there is a wide header panel or front bumper and grill and for very wide fender crowns. NB. Some of the wheel well is covered on a narrow fender. If frequent access is required to the wheel well area on a narrower fender, use the RLB-D model. If the painted area in front of the radiator is narrow than an RLB-D will fit there.

2) The design allows for one to insert a stiffener between the two layers of the fender cover's backer in the fender crown area in order to prevent fender crown dents in thinner wider aluminum fenders. Even elbows can cause dents in some fenders. **Use two layers of stiffeners (corrugated plastic sign material is light, easy to cut to shape, available locally and inexpensive) and extra padding on some older Ferrari fenders.

3) Actual Fender surface coverage is 54 inches wide x 36 inches deep
